Spring is when an hour in the garden saves you ten later. Do these eight jobs before May and the borders, lawn and pots will thank you all summer.
The checklist
- Cut back last year’s perennials and grasses
- Weed beds while the weeds are small
- Mulch beds with 2 in of compost
- Feed roses and shrubs
- First lawn cut on a high setting
- Edge the borders
- Check the irrigation zones
- Sow hardy annuals for gaps
Mulch is the best job of spring. It feeds the soil, keeps water in and stops half the weeds. Arjun, head gardener
