How to get a greener lawn without chemicals

Most lawns are not short of chemicals, they are short of roots. Deep roots find water in dry spells and crowd out weeds.

Three habits that work

  • Mow high: never take off more than a third of the blade
  • Water deeply once a week, not a little every day
  • Feed in spring and autumn with a slow-release organic feed

In September, aerate and top-dress. It is the single best thing you can do for a lawn.
