Cooler nights and warm soil make autumn the best time to repair a lawn. Seed sprouts fast and the roots grow all winter.
Your autumn jobs
- Rake out thatch and moss
- Aerate compacted areas with a fork or a hollow-tine aerator
- Top-dress with sandy loam
- Overseed thin patches
- Clear leaves every week so the grass gets light
Do not throw the leaves away: pile them in a wire cage and in a year you have leaf mould, the best free mulch there is.
